01

Before you start

About five minutes from the box to a picture on the wall.

  1. Find a plain wall

A light, plain wall works well. So does the ceiling, a white sheet pulled tight, or a screen. How far away to put it

  2. Plug it in

Plug the power cable into the projector and into the wall. There is no power brick.

  3. Switch it on and point it

Press the power button on the remote. The light comes on, and autofocus and auto keystone square and sharpen the picture in about 2 seconds. Focus and keystone

  4. Join your Wi-Fi

Follow the on-screen steps to connect to your Wi-Fi network, then sign in to your apps. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Keep the box

Keep the box and its inserts for the 60 nights of your guarantee. A projector travels badly without them.

02

What's in the box

Check that everything is here before you start.

  • Cineva One projector on its 360° stand. The stand comes off if you want the projector flat on a shelf.
  • Bluetooth voice remote with a 6-axis air mouse.
  • Power cable with the plug for your country.
  • User manual.

An HDMI cable, a streaming stick and a screen are not included. If anything is missing, email support@shopcineva.com with your order number.

The ports

  • HDMIA streaming stick, a games console or a laptop
  • USBA USB drive with videos, music or photos
  • Audio out3.5 mm, for wired headphones or a speaker
  • PowerThe power cable

The remote

Point the remote at the screen and move it like a pointer: the 6-axis air mouse moves a cursor, and the OK button clicks. Hold the voice button and speak to search. The focus buttons sharpen the picture by hand when you want to.

03

Placing it and picture size

How far from the wall for the size you want.

The further the projector is from the wall, the bigger the picture. It works well from 1 to 3.8 metres (measured corner to corner).

2 metres
about 2.1 m from the wall
2.5 metres
about 2.7 m from the wall
3 metres
about 3.2 m from the wall
Throw ratio
1.2:1

The 360° stand

The stand turns all the way around and tilts the projector up and down. Point it straight at a wall, angle it from a bedside table, or tilt it straight up to watch on the ceiling lying in bed. The picture squares itself at any angle.

Making the picture smaller without moving it

Go to Settings > Projection settings > Digital scaling and set anything from 50 to 100 percent. The picture shrinks while the projector stays put. After zooming, see the tip in chapter 04

Leave room to breathe

Keep the vents clear on every side. Do not stand it on a bed, a cushion or a rug where the fan cannot draw air, and never cover it while it is on.

04

Focus, keystone and obstacle avoidance

The picture sets itself up. Here is how to take over when you want to.

What it does by itself

  • Autofocus sharpens the picture each time you switch on or move the projector.
  • Auto keystone squares the corners when the projector sits off to one side, below or above the picture.
  • Obstacle avoidance moves the picture off a shelf, a light switch or a frame on the wall.

All three take about 2 seconds. Hold the projector still while they run.

Focusing by hand

Press the focus buttons on the remote until the text on screen is crisp.

Squaring the corners by hand

Go to Settings > Projection settings > Manual keystone and move each corner until the picture is square. To undo your changes, choose Settings > Projection settings > Reset keystone correction.

After using the digital zoom

Nudge the projector slightly. That makes autofocus and auto keystone run again, so the smaller picture is sharp and square.

05

Brightness modes

Three modes, for the room you are in.

High brightness

The brightest mode, 650 ANSI lumens. For a bigger picture, or a lamp on in the room.

Standard

For everyday watching in a dim room or after dark.

Eco

Saves energy with a softer picture. For a small picture in a dark room.

Change the mode in the picture settings on the projector.

Getting the brightest picture

  • Close the curtains or watch after dusk. No projector this size beats direct sunlight.
  • With a lamp on, bring the picture down to about 2 metres.
  • A light, plain wall or a white screen looks brighter than a dark or patterned wall.
06

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and sound

Getting online, and pairing a speaker or headphones.

Wi-Fi

The projector has dual-band Wi-Fi 6, on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It asks to join a network the first time you switch it on. Keep the router within about 5 m for the steadiest connection. Wi-Fi will not connect?

Bluetooth speakers, soundbars and headphones

  1. Put your speaker in pairing mode

Follow the instructions that came with the speaker, soundbar or headphones.

  2. Find it on the projector

Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Available devices and choose your speaker from the list.

  3. Play something

The sound now comes from the speaker. To go back to the built-in speakers, switch the speaker off or unpair it.

Wired sound

Plug wired headphones or a speaker into the 3.5 mm audio out.

07

Streaming apps and streaming sticks

Two ways to watch your shows.

Apps on the projector

Open the app store on the home screen, search for an app such as YouTube, and install it. Sign in with your usual account. Use the air mouse on the remote to point and click inside the apps.

A streaming stick in the HDMI port

For every app to run exactly as it does on your TV, Netflix included, plug a streaming stick (Fire TV Stick, Roku or Chromecast) into the HDMI port and power it from its own adapter. Then choose HDMI as the input on the projector. This is the surest way to watch the big streaming services.

An app will not play?

Some streaming apps block playback on projectors or over mirroring. A streaming stick in the HDMI port gets around this. For an app that crashes or freezes, see chapter 10.

08

Screen mirroring

Show your phone, tablet or laptop on the wall, with no cable.

Put the projector and your device on the same Wi-Fi network first.

  • AirPlay: iPhone, iPad and Mac. Open Screen Mirroring on your device and choose the projector from the list.
  • Miracast: many other phones and Windows laptops. Open Cast, Smart View or Screen Mirroring on your device and choose the projector.
  • DLNA: apps that can send a video or a photo to a device on your network.

Some streaming apps block mirroring because of copyright. For those, use a streaming stick in the HDMI port.

09

Updates and factory reset

Keep the software up to date, and start again if you need to.

Updating the software

  1. Online update

With the projector on Wi-Fi, go to Settings > About device > Online upgrade and follow the steps. Keep it plugged in until it restarts.

  2. Update from a USB drive

If support sends you an update file, copy it to a USB drive, plug it in, and go to Settings > About device > Local upgrade.

Factory reset

Go to Settings > Other settings > Restore factory settings. This removes your apps, accounts and Wi-Fi details and returns every setting to how it left the factory. You will go through the first setup again.

Do not unplug during an update

Switching off or unplugging while it updates can stop the projector from starting. Leave it alone until it restarts by itself.

10

Troubleshooting

Tap a problem to see what to try, in order.

No sound
  • Turn the volume up on the remote.
  • If a Bluetooth speaker is paired, check it is on and charged, or pair it again in Settings > Bluetooth > Available devices.
  • If you have switched on speaker mode, turn it off to hear the built-in speakers again.
  • Still nothing: do a factory reset (chapter 09).
The picture is tilted or not square
  • Hold the projector still for a few seconds so auto keystone can finish, or nudge it to run it again.
  • Update the software (chapter 09).
  • Square it by hand in Settings > Projection settings > Manual keystone.
  • Start again from scratch with Settings > Projection settings > Reset keystone correction.
The picture is blurry
  • Nudge the projector so autofocus runs again.
  • Focus by hand with the focus buttons on the remote.
  • After using the digital zoom, nudge the projector so focus and keystone run again.
  • Check the lens is clean (chapter 11).
An app crashes or freezes
  • Try another Wi-Fi network, or a hotspot from your phone, then update the software.
  • Check the time zone in Settings > Date and time > Time zone. A wrong time zone stops some apps signing in.
  • Clear the app’s cache in Settings > Apps management, choose the app, then Clear cache.
  • Still crashing: do a factory reset (chapter 09), or use a streaming stick in the HDMI port.
Wi-Fi will not connect
  • Move the router or the projector so they are within about 5 m of each other.
  • Check the time zone in Settings > Date and time > Time zone.
  • Try another network, or a hotspot from your phone, to see whether the problem is the router.
  • Try both bands: the 2.4 GHz network and the 5 GHz network.
  • Still nothing: do a factory reset (chapter 09).
The remote does not respond
  • Check the batteries in the remote.
  • Point it at the projector and stay within the same room.
  • Switch the projector off at the wall for a minute, then on again.

Safety and care

Read this before the first use, and keep the printed manual.

Eyes
  • Never look straight into the lens while the light is on, and do not let children do it.
  • Do not point the lens at anyone’s face from close up.
Power and heat
  • Use only the power cable from the box, plugged straight into the wall.
  • Keep the vents clear and never cover the projector while it is on. It gets warm, which is normal.
  • Unplug it during a thunderstorm and when you will not use it for a long time.
  • Never open the projector. Repairs are included in your 2 years of cover, so email support@shopcineva.com instead.
Water and outdoors
  • Keep it away from water, drinks and damp. It is not waterproof.
  • Outdoors, use it only in dry weather on a steady table, and bring it back indoors when you finish.
Cleaning
  • Unplug it first.
  • Wipe the case with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Clean the lens gently with a lens cloth. No sprays, no paper towels.
